Victoria Barn Mural
Client: Helical Levity
Role: Illustrator & painter
The brief.
The mural was for an office in the Cotswolds, which was a converted barn in the middle of the countryside.
The commission was for a dividing wall in the middle of the space, and interestingly the client wanted two murals on each side.
The concept.
The problems I had to solve with the design of this mural:
It had to be double-sided; whatever I create had to work on both sides of the divider.
It was in the middle of an office with no close windows to the outside.
There would be filming in the office, and the wall could be in the background.
I settled on the concept of a landscape, which complemented the Cotswold setting too.
I developed these archway views, taking inspiration from the existing architecture in the barn. I wanted the archways to feel like a glimpse into another vista, perfect for opening up the space, a filming background and office daydreaming.
Colour palette
I used the barn as inspiration for the colour scheme and aimed to match the environment while also adding pops of colour. To achieve this, I contrasted the warm orange hues of the brick and wood beams with blue. It was a challenge, but the end result was worth it.
I tried to match the artwork with paint chips from ready mixed paint, but it was tough and time consuming. Luckily, I discovered a custom paint color service that saved the day.
