The brief.
The BBC collaborated with the Philippines tourism board to commission an interactive map of the Philippines to promote the islands. There was a series of highlights on the map, when clicked, would open up a side panel which would introduce the area or wildlife.
My role was to illustrate the map and the spot illustrations.
The process.
The challenge with this illustration was that the map had to work both zoomed in and out. To be viewed as a whole and when clicked, the spot illustrations needed to work both on small and large scales, so getting the amount of detail right was crucial.
To solve this potential problem, I worked in Photoshop to illustrate. Then I exported the work to Figma to check the scale, ensuring the illustrations worked well for the web and mobile were essential for the illustration work.
